Joseph is an unlikely hero because he is plunged into a difficult situation that looks bleak and hopeless. He and Mary will be subject to shame and disgrace. How could God be at work for good when things didn’t look good? And yet God’s promise held true – and Joseph trusted the Lord and stood by Mary as they fulfilled God’s plan for their lives.
